What is a mail list?

A mail list is a grouping of individual email addresses that share a common interest. For the MObasketweavers list this interest is baskets and guild activities. People who are part of an electronic mailing list are usually called “members” or “subscribers.” Often the terms “members” and “subscribers” are used interchangeably when talking about mail lists. Our MObasketweavers mail list is completely separate from the MBG membership list. Individuals who want to belong to the mail list must join or subscribe.

When a message, or post as it is sometimes called, is sent to MObasketweavers mail list everyone who belongs to the mail list will receive the email message. This enables everyone to see and respond to messages. What better way to ask for help on a certain basket weaving problem or to share a basket weaving experience.

How do I join the MObasketweavers email list?

There are two basic methods for subscribing or unsubscribing to the list. Depending on the method used, you may receive an email message asking for a confirmation to your request. This is to prevent anyone from changing your mail settings, subscribing or unsubscribing you from the list without your permission. Follow the instructions given in the message to confirm your request. Respond promptly as confirmation messages will expire in a couple of days and no action will be taken for your request. Password

A password is used to verify your identity so that only the holder of the password can view and change their settings. The password is either set by you or generated by the mail list program when you subscribed. You’ll find your password is included in the welcome message that is sent when you join the list or you may receive a reminder each month. If you chose to change or set your own password, do not use a valuable password since the mail program will send you an email message with your password. Digest and Non-Digest Mode

Rather than get messages sent from the MObasketweavers mail list one at a time, you can get message bundled together. This typically means you would get one email per day, although it may be more or less frequent depending on the mail activity. Set the digest mode to “On” to bundle the messages. Set the digest mode to “Off” to receive each message separately. The default setting is “off” for separate messages and no action is need for those wanting the non-digest mode. Mail Hold

There is also an option to temporarily stop getting messages from the list without having to unsubscribe. This can be handy should you be going on vacation or just need a break from the list because you are too busy to read the extra mail. Concerned about getting SPAM messages

SPAM is a term for unsolicited bulk email and something that no one wants. The mail program used for the MObasketweavers mail list offers a number of configurations to help protect email addresses. Where possible, configurations have been set in an effort to prevent abuse of the list, email addresses, and list archives by those people who send SPAM messages.

Words of caution

The MObasketweavers mail list was established for communication and sharing of basket weaving and guild related subjects. The list group is not the forum for jokes, chain letters and other similar type messages. When posting messages to the list group, be respectful of the opinions and thoughts of the group’s members.

When a reply is sent to a mail list message it automatically goes to all subscribers of MObasketweavers mail list. To reply to an individual person use your computers email program “forward” option and enter the individual’s email address. A good rule of thumb is to check the “To:” line on your email message before clicking the send button to make sure it is going to where it is intended. Personal messages should be addressed directly to individuals. Any, concerns or problems with the mail list should be sent to As an extra precaution a moderator switch has been turned on to help reduce those inadvertent slips. This means that every message is sent to a queue to be release or rejected by moderators or the administrator.
